HUGH ROBERTS

COMPANY C PA 102ND REGIMENT VOLUNTEER INFANTRY

MUSICIAN

Hugh Roberts was mustered into "C" Company of the Pa. 102nd Regiment on * August 6, 1861 as a Fifer.   He was discharged September 3, 1864, expiration of term.

Hugh was born on December 8, 1832, in Pennsylvania.  His parents were Thomas Roberts and Elizabeth (Eliza Jane) ** Branninger Roberts.  Hugh was described as of dark complexion, blue eyes, black hair and 5' 8" tall.  He had been a coal miner living in Limetown, Washington Co., Pa., prior to the Civil War.

Hugh and Clarinda Culbertson were married on April 4, 1856 in Elizabeth Twp., Allegheny, Pa.  Family members think Clarinda and Hugh had eight children.

After the war, Hugh returned to working as a coal miner.  Hugh Roberts died on November 15, 1895, in Duquesne and is buried in Lobb Cemetery, near West Elizabeth Twp., Allegheny Co. Pa.

 

Hugh Roberts is the Great-great uncle of JoAnn Curnow who has generously provided this information.
