PVT. MILO GASTON GIBSON &
PVT. GEORGE L GIBSON
Milo G. Gibson & George L. Gibson mustered into service August 27, 1861 in Co C of the Pa. 102nd Regiment Volunteers. They were Mule Team Drivers. The brothers were mustered out at the end of their term, on September 3, 1864.
Milo was born April 6, 1833 in Coal Bluff, near Finleyville, Pa. in the then Union Township. Before the war Milo worked as a Coal Miner, Carpenter and Boat Builder, building steamboats. After the war he went back to coal mining as a supervisor. Milo died May 30, 1909 and is buried in Monongahela City Cemetery, Monongahela Pa.
George L. Gibson was born January 26, 1838 in Coal Bluff, Pa. He also was a Coal Minor before and after the war. George died February 1, 1884 in Shire Oaks, Pa.
Milo & George's mother name was Delila Gibson. She appears as head of household in the 1840 census when Milo was 7 Yrs. and George was 2 yrs. old. Their father had either died or disappeared, as his descendants have been unable to identify him. Delila, whose maiden name may have been Gaston, remarried to Hugh McKinney. At the time of the 1850 census, Milo and George were living with their mother and stepfather. At that time Milo was listed as a Coal Miner and George was still in school. Both were ill a great deal during the war and suffered some injuries, but were never wounded by the enemy or hospitalized.
Sarah Rebecca Anderson Flowers Gibson
Sarah married John Flowers in 1864 when she was 14. He was
wounded a few months later and died of infection. He served in a
different PA regiment, but his older brother was in the 102nd. A few
years after the war, Milo Gibson's wife Margaret died, leaving him
with two teen-aged children. A year after that, he married the very
young widow Sarah. She bore him a daughter and two sons, one
of whom died in infancy. Her daughter was my great grandmother.
Milo Gaston Gibson is the Great
great-grandfather and George L. Gibson the Great great-great-Uncle of
Monica Bradsher who has generously provided this information.
Sarah Rebecca Anderson Flowers Gibson is the great great grandmother of Monica Bradsher.
